This article deals with the United States company, Mattel. Mattel was made in California and produces many children's toys such as Barbie, HotRods, and American Girl. In 2002, Mattel shut down its last factory in the US. They decided to outsource their factories and work to China. How is it ok that they left Americans without jobs? And if they are to produce toys played by American children, how is it ok that they are being made in China? The decision to outsource came back to bite them. In the summer of 2007, Mattel had a series of recalls of chinese made toys that contained lead paint. This hurt Mattel's image and they are still fighting to recover from this problem. Choosing to outsource lead Mattel to follow the narrow view of corporate responsiblity. They were trying to make profits for themselves. This ended up hurting their company. Is it ethical that they continued to make products in China after they had a series of recalls. Was there decision immoral because they knew what was right and wrong but still chose to produce those products in China?
